Period: November 2019 - Mai 2020
Contact: René Peter Thaller, CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences
Cooperation Partner: ÖHB Marketing & Veranstaltungs GmbH (Subsiduary of Austrian Handball Federation)

The men’s handball European championship 2020 took place from 9 to 26 January 2020 in Norway, Austria and Sweden. The Austrian Handball Federation (ÖHB) and its subsidiary ÖHB Marketing & Veranstaltungen GmbH acted as local organisers. CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences was asked to evaluate the regional economic impacts of the handball EM at the venues of Vienna and Graz.

Methodologically, both a primary and a secondary survey were planned. Secondary data was available from ÖHB Marketing & Veranstaltungs GmbH and was evaluated by CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences. It was supplemented by a primary survey by questioning 704 randomly selected spectators about their spending behavior. The survey was conducted by using the mQuest survey software which was installed on tablets or smartphones. It was carried out in cooperation with clients of Lebenshilfe Trofaiach and Lebenshilfe Wien. Regional economic Impacts were calculated in cooperation with the Institute for Economic and Location Development (Institut für Wirtschafts- und Standortentwicklung, IWS) of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce.
