Modern Information Technologies

as a solution for challenges in management

Due to the change in significance and the steady development of information technologies in business and management, IT managers increasingly share their time between IT, on the one hand, and management, on the other. In future, demanding business tasks, such as increasing efficiency in business processes, need to be supported by the effective use of IT solutions. In order to do so, sound knowledge in the area of business system engineering and comprehensive management skills are required. Interdisciplinary knowledge, social skills and mastering modern management tools and systems are the main skills which IT professionals possess.

The principal focus of the Degree Programme therefore lies in the areas of business system engineering, information technologies and IT management, IT consulting, and service engineering.

Network Multifaceted Careers Research in Teaching
Grafik Personlity Development

The organisational structure of the degree programme is oriented towards the needs of professionally active students. Course units take place on Friday afternoons/evenings and on Saturdays. In addition, there are also distance learning elements to the programme, enabling students to undertake course work independently of location and time. The programme’s modules are designed in a way that the acquired knowledge can be tested on specific issues in business: projects and case studies complemented by presentations and discussions. At the end of the degree programme, students write a practice-oriented Master’s thesis.

The degree programme delivers tools and methods for innovating and designing the service range of our students’ companies as well as skills for budget and finance planning. In combination with in-depth knowledge of electronic business processes and their implementation in the context of business-wide IT strategies, students are able to implement and manage modern ITs in their companies. To complement our students’ qualification profile and make them successful IT managers, they learn about liability in the internet, business law, contract law and service level agreements.

Students acquire essential knowledge for developing new and smart services in a goal-oriented and methodological way as well as for controlling the quality of these services.

The Best Career Opportunities

There is only a small number of qualified applicants available for ever increasing tasks in the IT industry. In upcoming years, the IT industry will continue to grow and offer qualified generalists with interdisciplinary competences best job and career opportunities, especially in management. Due to their interdisciplinary training, Master graduates are promising employees whose fields of activity are at the interface between technology and business. Career opportunities range from senior manager positions in IT projects and demanding consulting activities to management tasks on a strategic level.

Certification possible within and outside our degree programme

ISTQB – Certification

ISTQB® Certified Tester is the name for a standardized qualification as a software tester. ISTQB defines this training. The training program is offered in many countries worldwide, making it the most widely used certification program for software testers.

Fields of Activity

  • IT management: CIOs (Chief Information Officers) are technical senior managers with sound business knowledge that design digital business applications and e-business architectures, control development processes, lead employees and function as classic IT consultants for internal and external customers
  • IT consulting in terms of “IT innovation services and business systems engineering” with a focus on organisation development, optimisation and design of business processes using information and communication technologies, and especially in terms of consulting for IT development projects
  • IT entrepreneurship requires the contribution to the development of IT and internet-based business ideas, and also encompasses their technical realisation in dynamic start-up environments.
  • IT engineering as the basis for planning and implementing complex IT projects. In the degree programme, modern technologies are taught in-depth and complexity handling is practiced.

Views & Voices

Portrait von Michael Mauthner
Through the constant developments in modern information technologies, many different fields of activity have quickly come to the forefront. For that reason, it is important to round off technical training with a Master Degree Programme that is broadly diversified through the implementation of compulsory elective subjects. Through the organisational structure oriented towards working professionals, the qualifications acquired enable direct knowledge transfer to professional activities.
