Studies on middle-sized world leaders (“Hidden Champions”) provide clear evidence that above average investments in research and development (R&D) are the basis for international market success.

The aim of the qualitative study conducted at the request of the Fachverband der Maschinen- und Metallwaren-Industrie (FMMI) and the Styrian Chamber of Commerce – Industry was to investigate how Austrian Hidden Champions act on an organisational, personnel and structural level in the area of R&D and innovation management.

The study also encompassed the analysis of the value creation of Austrian Hidden Champions and enquired what support these internationally successful companies would wish for from politics and interest representations in the area of R&D and innovation management.
